Since January, I've had a small rotating ad up on the Smart Bitches, Trashy Books Web site which, I believe, has definitely helped with book sales for That Fatal Kiss. I'm a bit worried that when April comes and the ad goes, so too will sales. Pondering these things made me think about doing a summer promotion, and offering the TFK e-book at a reduced rate at all online retailers where it's sold. The question is: when? Is May too soon to connect with readers interested in filling up their Kindles, Nooks, and iPads for all their vacation travel needs? Is June too late? And for how long should I run it: a week, two weeks, three, a month? Writers, what do y'all think?
Readers, when do you buy your summer reading stuffs? Do you do it in one fell swoop, or do you pick things up as they arise in your line of sight (which is what I do, unless a fave author's got something coming out, in which case I shop with intent)?
All y'all: please tell me in the comments!
Like you, I purchase when something catches my eye or if a blurb intrigues me enough to snatch it up right away.
ReplyDeleteHey Mina,
ReplyDeleteThought I'd better check you out. Been ages and I'm sure you missed me. I know! Who is this guy?
If a book catches my attention, no matter the time of year, I will purchase it. Indeed, do a spring and summer promotion. I do my best to send out others' post via all those social networks. You might consider resending out info on your book via all those social networks. Even on Farcebook!
Be well and smile, Mina.
Gary :)
Gary sent me. Glad he did. I don't think you have to worry about when people buy books. They buy them all the time, and I can't imagine there being just a summer date they adhere to. If the book is a grabber, which it seems yours is, then they are going to pick it up anytime they want a good read. Thank Gary and his total disregard for Farcebook for added promo. Good luck. I'm sure your book will continue to do well after that add vanishes. Word travels.
ReplyDeleteI usually make a list of books and stuff I want and cash in my spare change for an amazon.com gift card at the coinstar. But I don't own an e-book reader. I like book-books.
ReplyDeleteI buy all year, at the same pace, and your book is kickass enough to be picked up any time of the year :)
ReplyDeleteI tend to purchase books when they arise in my line of sight. I honestly don't go hunting for summer reads, since I just read whatever, whenever!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, good luck with the promotions! Marketing can be so, so hard. Hope whatever you end up doing for this ultimately works in your favor!
I don't have an ereader so I purchase sporadically and usually several books at a time since I live overseas and have to order from Amazon. I wish I could give you some advice on the promo but I've got zero experience in that department. Good luck with it all, ain't marketing fun?! :P
ReplyDeleteDarn and I thought I learn lots from your question - seems no one has the answer. Sorry, I'm no better, no help, and still searching for my own success!
ReplyDeleteKeep pushing!
I think end of to early June is a good time. :)
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Valerie
Thanks for all your thoughts, folks!
