...I'm clearly lying about that last bit. I plan to tipple steadily throughout the day this coming Wednesday, the day the Kid embarks on his trip, so I can just not give a shit that he's flying an airline I've never heard of before and will be almost completely out of reach till mid-July.
...Balthazar's girlie and some of her fam were in Europe themselves recently and had a brief layover in Manhattan yesterday on their way home, so he and I went downtown to say howdy. When Balthy and his gal reunited, I was struck by how much love for him poured out of her eyes. My next thought, which haunted me for the rest of the day, was how painfully vulnerable we become when we love and how easily our beloveds can destroy us. (What the Kid's initial response was to her I can't quite tell you, as I deliberately turned away so they could suck face in relative privacy.)
...Balthy's got way more clothes than I do. Waaaaay moooooooore. And that pic doesn't show even half of his crap. Who the hell's got time for that much laundry, ain't nobody got time for that! (The Kid obviously doesn't, else his threads wouldn't be in a mound on the floor, awaiting the tender mercies of Tide.)
I spent a month in Russia some years ago and flew on an airline I'd never really heard of. I'm not a fan of flying but these were very smooth flights. I was impressed.
ReplyDeleteThe entire trip/experience was fantastic, and I met some truly wonderful people there. I hope your son has a great time as well.
I'm sure he'll love it. He'll definitely come back with some new impressions - it's quite different to life in the U.S., but you shouldn't worry. (I know, easy to say!) The people there are wonderful, and from our experience, are even willing to give more than they have.
ReplyDeleteIt's a valuable experience, and one he'll never forget.
Wow. What a great trip! Russia with Lurrrve! I'm only a couple of hours away if he needs anything :)
ReplyDeleteGoth mum to Goth Mum lite...he he he - love that !
I was so flabbergasted at both the Putin thing and Balthy's Russia trip, I was speechless. Hahaha. He will definitely have a different perspective on the world after this. Oh, and I see nothing wrong with giving him a sealed envelope to hand off to Putin if he happens to have the opportunity (though he's not to my taste).
ReplyDeleteTry not to stress too much.
He's gonna have a blast on that trip!! I hope he takes lots of pics. that month will fly by for both of you.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he'll be fine, but I would be completely wigging out if it were my child.
ReplyDeleteSuch an exciting time. Your son is very lucky, for many reasons!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Putin has been made aware of your blog post. They search for such words, the ones that repeat and the entire security net over in Russia have passed on the word. Soon I see you flying off for a date with the man, new photo shoot - American woman falls for Russian prince - or something like that. Hey why not, he's a photo hound and making nice would get him some cred points, right? I just don't want him to use you - you deserve so much more!
We get a LOT of Russian tourists in Egypt. I can always tell the Russians from the Europeans because Russian girls wear micro-minis and occasionally pair them with boots -- the over-the-knee slutty kind they advertize in Fredrick's of Hollywood. If they wear that in a Muslim country, I can't imagine what they wear in Russia. And most of them are gorgeous and would LOVE to marry an American and immigrate. Balthy's GF will be lucky if he's still interested in her by the time he comes back. But except for STDs, I'm sure he'll be safe in Russia.
ReplyDeleteI was afraid to let my own neurosis about traveling kids seep into any comment I left! Those are going to be some incredible pictures!
ReplyDeleteI hope he has the best of times! You, too in your time as an empty-nester!!!
ReplyDeleteAll the best to the Kid, and to you. He'll learn, not come to any harm, and love you all the more when he comes back :). Hugggs.
ReplyDeleteThe Kid will rule Russia by the end of the month. I'd bet money on that.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Valerie
Lol, yeah that fact totally escaped me, but perhaps because I'm in England and it feels closer. I hope he has a safe trip :-)
ReplyDeleteMy boy birds are both flying back this summer to crash at home. I am braced for messes and fun.
