Top Ten Movie Countdown Blogfest today, wherein participants list...well, the obvious. (C'mon, I don't really need to explain this one, do I?)
Narrowing down my favorite movies to my top ten only was a pain in the ass. I
hate having to limit myself and, really, the list coulda gone on and on and on. But I had to whittle down to ten, so I settled on using the following criterion: flicks which, if I see they're on telly, I absolutely MUST stop what I'm doing to watch. Even with this I could easily have gone past ten, but I did, in the end, restrain myself. You may notice a number of these are comedic-horror and/or set in New York (city or state, or featuring New Yorkers) and/or campy-kooky, which really speaks to the stuff I dig the most.
So here are my top ten, always-gotta-watch-'em movies as of today, in order by year released (click on the caption to read more about 'em):
I think Shaun of the Dead was the first zombie movie I ever watched and is the only one I'll ever own. Love that movie.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to kill Phillip!
Ya got red on ya, MJ. ;-)
DeleteLove this list. I Love You To Death is an awesome movie that did not get nearly the love it should have. It totally cracked me up and still does. Mimic was intense as was Sleepy Hollow.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you on I Love You to Death, 1000%!!!
DeleteI've seen rhem all and loved them all.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! :-)
DeleteI think the one I have not seen is your #8.
ReplyDeleteGreat list.

Psycho Beach Party is a campy bit of fun. :-)
DeleteMost of your favorites are big favorites of mine, too, especially the first five! I've seen every one of your 10 except #8 - and I'd like to see that one. What a fun list! :-)
ReplyDeleteIf the bizarre, mixed with the 60s surfer era, Thomas Gibson, and cross-dressing, appeals to you on any level, then definitely see it! :-)
DeleteWow.. just wow, your list is so on the money even "Psycho Beach Party"... you win for being a perfect ten!!
ReplyDeleteJeremy [Retro-Z]
Howlin' Wolf
Awwww, shucks. :-)
DeleteFollowing from the Top Ten Movie Countdown Blogfest!
ReplyDeleteI love your list! Any that I haven't seen are going on my "to be seen" list. I remember ditching my 10 year high school reunion to go see Ghostbusters II. :p
LOL, can't say I blame you for that! :-)
DeletePsycho Beach Party sounds like a real hoot! That I gotta see.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I really think ya gotta. ;-)
DeleteI remember watching Moonstruck (I was ten) and wondering how they got the moon to be so big, you know the scene I'm talking about, right? Anyway, love Ghostbusters and a bunch of others you've got up there. My Cousin Vinni was so funny. Haven't seen the Psyco one and I don't think I've seen Constantine, but somehow it does ring a bell. . .
ReplyDeleteI totally know the scene you mean, and yeah, that moon was HUGE! Che bella luna!!!
DeleteMoonstruck is easily one of my fave movies in the world. I watch it every year before Christmas. I'd love to see La Boheme thanks to that movie.
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet!
DeleteWhen I was prego with my 2nd son, the hubs and I watched Sleepy Hollow. We'd rented it and when Ichabod was getting ready to do the autopsy on the lady, my water broke. (Did I already tell you this? LOL I'm having a dejavu thingie!)
ReplyDeleteLove The Lost Boys *meow* and My cousin Vinny is hilarious! I forgot to include that one on my list. Doh! :)
OMG, that's a crazy coincidence! :-D
DeleteI saw a bit of Constantine. Only a bit. But I loved and danced with Ghostbusters, hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI understand a Ghostbusters III is possibly on the way...
DeleteSleepy Hollow is a fascinating movie...My cousin Vinny is also among my favorites :).
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike!
DeletePsycho Beach Party sounds like such a fun, twisted movie.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow. I'm glad to do the same.
Cheers.

Thanks, and likewise!
DeleteGhostbusters! That was actually my favorite cartoon series when I was young. Constantine was kinda creepy, but I enjoyed it too!
ReplyDeleteNutschell

OMG, I'd forgotten about the cartoon. :-)
DeleteGreat list of shows! We have much in common.
ReplyDeleteFor sure; I forgot to mention on your blog that I dig the MIB series too, though I'm sad to admit I've not (yet) seen the 3rd installment. Alas. :-(
DeleteInteresting choices! Some of them is very suprising to me, but the Ghostbusters was one of my favourite 'classic' movie.
ReplyDeleteI think I should rewatch the Sleepy hollow and Constantine.
Thanks, Zoltan. Having done this list, I now want to rewatch them all! :-)
DeleteI've not seen Ghostbusters in the longest time. It's usually a good on to watch over Christmas (or when you're on an 80s binge). Nice selections :)
ReplyDeleteJamie
Thanks, Jamie!
DeleteGah! How could I have forgotten 'Ghostbusters', 'The Lost Boys' and the absolutely hysterical "My Cousin Vinny' (Joe and Marisa at their best - what a couple they made).
ReplyDeleteGreat list!
Well, there could be only ten, which makes it difficult, doesn't it? Reading others' lists, I ached at what I didn't have room for on my own.
DeleteOh Constantine! I forgot this one. I can't resist watching it when it's on. Great picks Mina!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Dani!
DeleteSleepy Hollow is one I definitely forgot! Burton's best film.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in my blogfest.
It's been a gas! :-)
DeleteYes, yes, My Cousin Vinny - how could I forget that!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you didn't - we could have ten only! :-)
DeleteI've only seen Moonstruck and Ghostbusters. For whatever reason, I've never really been interested in modern movies, except for foreign films and historical dramas.
ReplyDeleteThen you probably save a load of dough on movie tickets! :-)
DeleteI have never seen Psycho Beach Party. Another to add to my Must See list=)
ReplyDeleteIt's a crazy-fun ride. :-)
DeleteOh, you have some of my fav movies here.. I totally forgot to add Shaun of the Dead...love that movie:)
ReplyDeleteI keep wanting a sequel, but where the heck would it go, right?
DeleteI see we have Ghostbusters in common. Ive seen parts of Shaun of the Dead and want to watch it in its entirety. One more for the Netflix que.
ReplyDeleteI know, going through others' lists, I've been inspired to re-watch so many movies...but there's not enough time, gah!
DeleteI've seen about half of these and most of those I saw in a theater. Gosh, that was ages ago. Last time I was in a theater was about 2005. Let's face it. I don't get out much these days.

I went through a looooong phase of not getting out to the movies, but empty nesting has somewhat freed up my time. :-)
DeleteAh Sleepy Hollow! What a great movie. I want to go watch it now :)
ReplyDeleteOf course, Ghostbusters is a classic. Who else would we call?
LOL; well, now we've got the Ghost Hunters, and Ghost Adenturers, and whatnot...though I reckon they don't so much trap spirits as they antagonize them, eh? :-D
DeleteLOL, I wasn't sure what I'd find here - maybe a lot more vampire :) Loved your list Mina.
ReplyDelete.....dhole
Or porn, probably. C'mon, you totally thought that, I bet. ;-)
DeleteSuch good movies! I forgot about Sleepy Hollow for my list! I watch that one over and over, as well. There isn't a bad one on this list, though.
ReplyDeleteShannon at The Warrior Muse
Aw, thanks, lady!!!
DeleteShaun of the Dead is so freakin' hilarious. I also love The Lost Boys. Great soundtrack. Cool list!
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, loved The Lost Boys soundtrack. Believe it or not, I just adore that carousel music, which, it turns out, was composed especially for the film.
Deleteahhh the lost boys. i dont remember it, but i so loved the 80s.
ReplyDeleteIt's rather the epitome of what I like best: scary/funny/and romantical. :-D
DeleteLost Boys and Sleepy Hollow! Great choices!
ReplyDeleteThanks, those do seem to be, along with Ghostbusters, the big hits of my list.
DeleteGHOSTBUSTERS!!!! I adore this movie. Favorite lines: "Where do these stairs go?" "They go up."
ReplyDeleteROTFL!!! "Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say 'YES'!"
DeleteGreat list! I loved Ghostbusters, Lost Boys, and Sleepy Hollow!
ReplyDeleteThanks, now I'm dying to re-watch them. :-)
DeleteFantastic picks! Ghostbusters and The Lost Boys are two of my all time favorites. It was hard for me to pick just ten for my list. So many great films out there.
ReplyDeleteI KNOW! Wish we coulda picked 20!
DeleteAwesome movie picks here. Haven't seen all of them. LOVED Shaun of the Dead :) and only recently saw Moonstruck for the first time. Nicholas Cage was tasty!
ReplyDeleteYEAH! Ever see him in Valley Girl? Supposedly fluff but, IMO, darker than the average 80s flick...
Delete"A wolf without a foot!"
I have not Shaun or Beach Party. I could have easily included Lost Boys and Cousin Vinny on my list. Pretty good criteria as it is exactly what I used (except for the Exorcist). Used the same criteria on the movie countdown Alex did a couple years ago. And Constantine was an especially good choice. Thanks for coming by yesterday to visit. PS Like your bio!
ReplyDeleteChuck at Apocalypse Now
Thanks, Chuck, on all counts!
DeleteI've watched only bits of The Exorcist, but maybe some bright, sunshiny day I'll watch it first thing in the morning so I have the whole day to get over it and be able to sleep that night! :-)
Yay for The Lost Boys! And who you gonna call?...Ghostbusters!
ReplyDeleteI ain't 'fraid of no ghosts! (OK, that's a blatant lie, 'cause I know I'd likely soil myself if I ever ran into one.) ;-)
DeleteLOL! Me too!
DeleteMoonstruck and Ghostbusters, YES!
ReplyDeleteGreat list, but I have to admit a few I've not seen.
Thanks, Yolanda!
Deletesleepy hollow...mr. depp you outdid yourself on this dark movie!!! great picks girl
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tammy! yeah, Depp really did a fantastic job in Sleepy Hollow.
DeleteI still have my Ghostbuster shirt.
ReplyDelete::gasps with envy:: Luckeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Delete"Shaun of the Dead" was brilliant and hilarious. It holds a special place in my heart even if it didn't make my top 10. :3
ReplyDeleteI am totally un-hip and don't recognize that smiley. What's it mean, s'il vous plait?
DeleteGreat picks! Only about two I was unfamiliar with. LOVE Shaun of the Dead (and Simon Pegg in general), but have to admit that I liked ZombieLand just a little bit better.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for Moonstruck - "Bella La LUNA!!!!" Adored Olympia Dukakis.
Olympia Dukakis was AMAZING in Moonstruck! <3
