Fire Woman ~ The Cult
I'd been thinking about this lusty avowal of desire for a fiery femme for my "F" A to Z Challenge post but wasn't sure I'd use it until my Dear Friend Monica (and then my Dear Friend Nikki) chimed in to support it. For verily, as they said, 'tis a hot tune made hotter by the swaggering lead singer, Ian Astbury, who prances, "...like a cat on a hot tin shack..." (LAWDhammercy!). Woof!Fever ~ Annabella
You may remember Annabella as the (alarmingly young) lead singer of Bow Wow Wow, purring about how she wanted candy (nudge nudge, wink wink). Well, Ms. Annabella covered this old tune to dramatic effect, one which impressed itself on my psyche and made me want to sing it like she did. Of course, many others have covered this song, but her version is my favorite (though the video's a bit meh).Feelin' Love* ~ Paula Cole
(*Just a wee bit explicit)
I must have been in my mid-20s the first time I heard this tune, already married, and a mother. Nevertheless, its honest and quivering descriptions of a woman's arousal made me blush. Like, bright pink flaming cheeks, and whatnot. Heh heh. You get your freak on, Paula Cole. :-) (Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a proper video for the tune, so I have to show you an improper one.) (So to speak.)
I absolutely loved The Cult when they were still together. Fire Woman was all over rock radio and is still heard today in a number of the bigger markets.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite songs by them was 'Ciao,' better known as Edie.
It has been said by a few pals of mine in radio that only Ian, Jim Morrison and one other had a voice such as theirs. Perhaps that is why I like Ian and Jim best of all?
I agree with you on Ian and Jim's distinctive voices...who was the other fella?
DeleteAnother male voice that comes to mind as distinctive is Dan Auerbach, from The Black Keys. Dig it!
I saw The Cult at a festival a few years ago. They were great. Good post.
ReplyDeleteHere's my F post:

Nice! Seems they're touring around me now, though I'm not sure I can spare a bit of the ready to go see them right now...
DeleteI dig the hell out of that Fever cover. -Robin D.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Sara! I'm really pleased to learn so many people a)Know it, and b)Dig it like my friends and I do! :-)
DeleteThoroughly enjoying your posts Mina. Hate to tell you though, your see through rectangles are back....
ReplyDeleteThanks, Wayne. I noticed them last night as well, though they seem to be gone at the mo. Bizarre.

A to Z co-host
And thanks for visiting! :-)
Delete"Fever" is not a song to be sung wearing a jean jacket in a roadside cafe. I guess that's why she graduates to a night club and slinky black dress. She looked better with a proper mohawk, too.
ReplyDeleteLOL - agreed, on both points!
